A single parent (horeh yechidani) is entitled to a dedicated layer of financial rights — additional tax credit points, maintenance guaranteed through Bituach Leumi, income and housing support, and childcare subsidies.
Tax credit points for a single parent
A single parent is entitled to additional tax credit points, over and above the points granted for the children themselves.
This is the central financial entitlement, and it is claimed by marking the relevant box on Form 101 — or retroactively through a tax refund. See the site's tax credit points page for detail.
Maintenance and the maintenance guarantee
Where maintenance has been awarded for the children and the liable party is not paying it, you can approach the National Insurance Institute, which pays the maintenance up to a ceiling and then collects it from the liable party itself. This is the maintenance guarantee mechanism (havtachat mezonot).
Income support
A single parent on low income may qualify for an income support benefit from the National Insurance Institute, subject to income and employment tests.
Childcare subsidies and tuition assistance
Single parents are sometimes entitled to a preferential subsidy tier at day care centres and family day care, and to assistance with tuition fees, subject to the criteria of the relevant bodies.
Where to check and apply
Tax credit points are handled through the Tax Authority and your employer. Maintenance, the maintenance guarantee and income support are handled through the National Insurance Institute. Childcare subsidies are handled through the Ministry of Welfare and the employment administration.
