Child Allowance
Child allowance is an ongoing monthly payment that accompanies every family from birth until age 18. It is paid automatically, but it is worth understanding how much you receive, how it works — and above all the important associated entitlement: Savings for Every Child.

What child allowance is
Child allowance is a monthly payment from the National Insurance Institute, made to a parent for each child until age 18. Its purpose is to help with the costs of raising children.
The allowance is paid automatically into the bank account where the birth grant was paid — no application is needed.
The 2026 amounts
The amount per child depends on the number of children and the birth order:
| Child | Monthly allowance per child |
|---|---|
| First child | 173 ₪ |
| Second child | 219 ₪ |
| Third child | 219 ₪ |
| Fourth child | 219 ₪ |
| Fifth child onward | 173 ₪ |
Correct for 2026 and updated according to the index. The more children, the larger the family's total monthly allowance. For example, a family with three children receives 173 + 219 + 219 = 611 ₪ per month.
Savings for Every Child — do not ignore it
Alongside the allowance, the state deposits an additional monthly sum into Savings for Every Child — a long-term savings programme opened automatically for every child receiving child allowance.
Two decisions matter here, and neither should be left on the default.
First, choosing the managing institution and investment track — a provident fund or a bank, and a track according to risk level. Across an eighteen-year horizon an equity track usually delivers more. See the logic in the capital market.
Second, you can double the monthly deposit out of the child allowance, which significantly increases the savings for the child's future.
An active choice here is worth thousands of shekels by age 18.
Common mistakes
1. Leaving Savings for Every Child on the default track — a suboptimal track costs money over time.
2. Out-of-date bank details, which delay the allowance.
3. Not checking further entitlements. Child allowance is only one part of the parenthood package.
Summary
Child allowance arrives automatically — but Savings for Every Child alongside it requires an active decision that is worth real money for the child's future. Check the track and consider doubling the deposit.
