Bitcoin
A volatile digital asset. Explained without the hype — what it is, how it works, and what the real risk is.
Historical trend
What is Bitcoin?
Bitcoin is a decentralized digital asset — no central bank, no government, no managing entity. It is used both as a payment method and, increasingly, as "digital gold" — an asset investors hold long-term.
How it affects you
Important caveat: Bitcoin is exceptionally volatile. 10%–20% swings within a week are common. If you are considering holding Bitcoin, a healthy allocation is no more than 5%–10% of your portfolio, and only money you are prepared to lose.
How to read this number
The value is shown in shekels. The absolute value matters less — what matters is the long-term trend and percentage change. A 5-year chart says far more about "what this is" than a daily value.

Frequently asked
פתח/סגור: How do you legally buy Bitcoin in Israel?
Through licensed platforms that work with Israeli banks (e.g., Bits of Gold, eToro). Anonymous purchases are illegal — anti-money-laundering laws require identification. Keep records for tax purposes.
פתח/סגור: Is there tax on Bitcoin gains?
Yes. The Israel Tax Authority treats Bitcoin profits as capital gains — 25% tax on the real gain (after inflation). You are responsible for reporting, even if the platform does not file automatically.
