What is S&P 500?
The S&P 500 is an index of the 500 largest publicly traded US companies — Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, NVIDIA, Google and more. It is the world's most quoted equity benchmark and a proxy for the US economy as a whole.
How it affects you
Millions of Israelis are indirectly invested in the S&P 500 via index-tracking funds (e.g., "S&P 500 track" in pension or training funds). Its historical average return is about 10% annually (before inflation). It is considered one of the best long-term assets in the world.
How to read this number
The index is measured in points (not dollars). The absolute value matters less than the percentage change. Daily moves of 0.5%–1% are normal; 2%+ moves are significant.

Frequently asked
פתח/סגור: Should I move my entire pension to an S&P 500 track?
Depends on age, time horizon, and risk tolerance. For a 30-year-old with 35 years to retirement — a global equity track is reasonable. For a 60-year-old — diversification is usually advised. Consult an objective pension advisor.
